Sea Change Symposium
Transformative Currents for Action
in the Pacific Ocean, 2022
Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA),
November 12, 2022

Marcos Lutyens participated as a panelist in Sea Change Symposium, a two-year culminating research forum hosted at the newly opened Orange County Museum of Art, designed by Pritzker Prize–winning architect Thom Mayne of Morphosis Studio. The symposium formed the foundation for Sea Change: Transformative Currents for Action in the Pacific Ocean, part of the Getty Foundation’s Pacific Standard Time: Art x Science x L.A. initiative.
The program led by Cassandra Coblentz, brought together artists, writers, scientists, Indigenous knowledge holders, and community organizations to explore how art can catalyze ecological stewardship while addressing the historic and ongoing impacts of cultural and environmental disruption across the Pacific. Organized around an ocean-current model of fluidity, interconnection, and collaboration, the symposium presented talks, panels, and offsite activities that bridged artistic, scientific, and multispecies perspectives.
Lutyens served as a panelist for “Futurisms” on November 12, 2022, contributing an induction performance and participating in a moderated discussion and Q&A focused on envisioning just environmental futures and the role of art in shaping ecological imagination and action.
