MELTING ICE NoxLux is a collaborative vinyl and sound project by Marcos Lutyens and sound artist Aaron Drake, exploring darkness, illumination, and perceptual inversion through sound, voice, and material form. The album was released and presented during the Summer Solstice as part of public events at GAM – Galleria d’Arte Moderna, Turin, and within the context of Luci d’Artista, situating the work within a temporal threshold between night and day.
The record is designed to beplayed with both sides simultaneously, with the groove from one side generating the inverse music of the other, producing a convergence of sonic frequencies and shifting interference patterns that can unfold as a four-channel listening experience. Embedded within this sonic architecture is a hypnotic narrative voiced by Marcos Lutyens, which guides the listener through an imagined walk along an undulating, spiralling gorge — a landscape that ultimately reveals itself to be a journey through the groove of the record itself, collapsing physical terrain and recorded medium into a single perceptual field.
The vinyl is pressed in black and white, with each record carrying a unique imprint, making every copy a singular object as well as a playable score. The album artwork was created by Noah Smith (Scrap Labs), extending the project’s exploration of inversion, duality, and material variation into its visual language. NoxLux was realized with the support of Antonio Grulli, in collaboration with GAM Torino and Luci d’Artista, and with the support of Galerie Alberta Pane. The album was released digitally alongside the physical edition, allowing the project to circulate across both ritual listening contexts and contemporary streaming platforms.
