Florestatia
AZULIK City of Arts, 2023

Florestatia is an immersive art–science installation conceived as a symbiotic pod embedded in the Yucatán rainforest, developed for AZULIK City of Arts. The project explores direct communication between plant and human consciousness through biosensors, EEG, AI-mediated feedback loops, and immersive environmental design. In dialogue with the research of Paco Calvo, a leading theorist of plant cognition, the work draws on Integrated Information Theory and emerging studies of plant sentience. Visitors enter a living structure where physiological signals from both humans and surrounding vegetation are translated into sound, vibration, and sensory modulation. Through this embodied exchange, Florestatia proposes a new model of ecological empathy — one that treats plants not as passive organisms, but as active participants in shared consciousness and environmental intelligence.
