Marcos Lutyens was selected as a 2024 Falling Walls Art & Science finalist for Breaking the Wall of Reclaimed Oil Rigs. The project explores how decommissioned offshore oil platforms in California might be reimagined as ecologically productive artificial reefs.
Bringing together artistic research, environmental science, public engagement, and speculative design, the work examines the cultural and political tensions surrounding energy infrastructure, marine conservation, and ecological transition. Lutyens was one of ten international artists selected through the Falling Walls Art & Science Global Call and presented the project in Berlin as part of the 2024 Falling Walls Science Summit.
