Equinox ≈ Equilux was presented as part of Accademia della Luce, the public program of Luci d’Artista 27 at the GAM – Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Torino. Luci d’Artista is Torino’s long-standing celebration of light as a contemporary art form, transforming the city into an open-air museum of luminous works conceived by Italian and international artists since its inception in 1998. The initiative is curated by Antonio Grulli (Curator) with Arianna Bona serving as Project Manager and features cultural programming amplified across social media by Viola Cenacchi.

Within this context, Equinox ≈ Equilux was conceived as a psycho-magik journey, unfolding at the summer solstice — the point at which daylight and darkness achieve a unique equilibrium. Drawing on the deep historical and mystical associations of light in culture and ritual, the performance invited participants into a liminal space where perception and sensation intertwine. Set against the backdrop of one of Italy’s leading modern and contemporary art institutions, the work was articulated through a field of light, sound, subsonic vibrations, and guided voice, creating an immersive experience of inner alignment and shared transformation. The project extended as a collaboration with Aaron Drake who steered the hypnotic sound design incorporating the Album Nox Lux which was launched that same night. A large gong was secured as well as a shamanic drum. An olfactory haptic work was shared with the visitors that included the smell of cade/bonfire.
Presented on 21 June 2025 during SUMMER SOLSTICE II, Equinox ≈ Equilux occurred at the Arena Paolini within the GAM, alongside performances and conversations that explored the poetic and performative dimensions of light. The evening culminated in Equinox ≈ Equilux, a participatory invocation of the midsummer threshold, where inner states and external phenomena momentarily coalesce. Credits
